Vinod Joshi is the most appreciated and widely accepted poet of the Gujarati language in India and abroad. Vinod Joshi served as a Professor and Head at the Department of Gujarati for 40 years in the Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji university of Bhavnagar and headed the same university as a Vice-Chancellor too.

He served as a convener of Gujarati and western region languages of India to Sahitya Akademi (New Delhi) from 2008 to 2012 and again nominated for the same for the tenure of 2018 to 2022

There are more than 40 books on his credit. Mainly he explored poetry, fiction, and criticism.

Vinod Joshi's poetry is infused with images of rural life, particularly through the portrayal of feminine sentiments. He is critically acclaimed in Gujarati literature for the elegant female sensibility in the sounds,- and rhythms of his Geets (songs). Motifs in his poetry include intense femininity, solitude, social status, and an indefinable individuality, conveyed in images of everyday reality and objects.

'Parantu', his first anthology of poems, was published in 1984 by the Kavilok Trust. It was followed in 1985 by 'Shikhandi'. A long narrative poem, 'Shikhandi' is composed in accordance with the rules of Sanskrit prosody. The poem deals with the psyche of Shikhandi and Bhishma, characters from the Mahabharata. 'Tundil-Tundika' (1987), another long narrative poem, is a reinterpretation of the medieval Gujarati padyavaarta form in a modern style. 'Zalar Vage Zoothadi' (1991) is Joshi's most loved and sought-after collection of poems.

'Sairandhri'(2018) is a highly appreciated Prabandh-Kavya written with Draupadi of Mahabharata in the center of focus. The long poem consists of 7 Sargas, 49 Khands, and 1800 lines. A distinct world of Draupadi's thoughts and feelings as a woman during her Agyatvaas are rendered beautifully in this long poetry in meters like Chopai and Dohra. It is noted as a unique creation in the poetic literature of Indian languages.

Vinod Joshi honored with the Kavishwar Dalpatram Award in 2013 and was awarded the Sahitya Gaurav Puraskar by the Gujarat Sahitya Akademi in 2015. His book of literary criticism, Nivesh, was awarded the Ramanlal Joshi Prize, instituted by the Gujarati Sahitya Parishad (Gujarati Literary Council), in 1994. In 2012, he was the first recipient of the Girnar Sahitya Shiromani Puraskar, awarded by the Indian public service broadcaster Doordarshan in Ahmedabad. He has also received the Umashankar Joshi Award (1986), the Jayant Pathak Poetry Award (1984), the Critics Award (1986), the Zaverchand Meghani Award (2011), Manubhai pancholi 'Darshak' Award (2021),the Rashtriya Kala Kendra Appreciation Award (2014), and the Kala Ratna Award from the Gujarat Kala Pratishthan (2016). He was given the highest honor of Gujarati poetry Narsinh Mehta Award in 2018 for his excellent contribution to Gujarati poetry. He was awarded the Samarpan Sanman (2018) by the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai for his most appreciated Prabandh-Kavya 'Sairandhree', and the Kalapi Award (2018) by the Indian National Theater (INT) for his valued contribution to Gujarati poetry. He is also awarded by the Gujarat Sahitya Acadamy for 'Sairandhri' and 'Nirvivaad' for the best books of poetry and criticism of 2018.

He participated as an Indian poet of Gujarati language to many countries like China, Japan, Kenya, U.K., U.S.A., U.A.E., Thailand, Australia, Mauritius, Canada, etc as an invited poet or as a representative of Indian literature.

His poems have been sung widely by most singers and music artists. his Prabandh-kavya 'Sairandhri' is being performed as a musical dance-drama before the invited audience at many places in India and abroad.
