ગુજરાતીસાહિત્ય ફોરમ આયોજીત વક્તવ્યના વક્તા હતા ડો. વિભૂતિ પટેલ. તેમણે ભારતમાં આજથી3000 વર્ષ પહેલાં નારી મુક્તિની ચળવળચાલુ થઇ ત્યારથી અત્યાર સુધી જે મહિલાઓનું યોગદાનરહ્યું છે તે બાબત પર પ્રકાશ પાડ્યો .
ઈ.સ. પૂર્વે લગભગ 1000 વર્ષ પહેલાં પાલી ભાષામાંબુધ્ધના વખતનું સાહિત્ય જેમાં બુધ્ધના શિષ્યો સાથેનો વાર્તાલાપમાં સ્ત્રી-પુરુષ વચ્ચે ની અસમાનતા, બહેનોના લિંગભેદના પ્રશ્નોનીસુંદર છણાવટ છે. બુધ્ધ ભગવાને સ્ત્રીઓને ઉચ્ચ સ્થાને મૂકી હતી . સંસારની રચનામાંને ત્યારબાદ કુટુંબ, પરિવારની દેખરેખ , બાળકોને જન્મઆપી તેમને કેળવવા એ જવાબદારીથી સ્ત્રી જ નિભાવે છે. આજના બધાં જપ્રશ્નોના ઉત્તર તેમના વાર્તાલાપમાં મળી આવે છે.
12 મી સદીમાંમહાદેવની આક્કા એ નારીમુક્તિ માટે અવાજ ઉઠાવ્યો. તે સમયના સમાજમાં એ સહજ નહતુંતેમને ઘરની બહાર કાઢવામાં આવ્યા . તેમનામાં આત્મબળ હતું, ભગવાનને શરણેગયા , સંસારનો ત્યાગ કર્યો એટલે સુધીકે વસ્ત્રનો ત્યાગ કર્યો, પોતાનું શરીર તેમના લાંબા વાળથીઢાંકતા.
13મી સદીમાંજનાબાઇએ સમાજ સામે અવાજ ઉઠાવતા અભંગો લખ્યા ને બાકીનું જીવન ઇશ્વરનીઆરાધનામાં સમર્પિત કર્યું. કાશ્મીરના લાલેશ્વરી ને હબ્બા ખાતુમ સ્ત્રીઓના હક્કમાટે લડ્યા. મીરાંબાઇએ પણ તેમના પર થતા અત્યાચાર સામે અવાજ ઉઠાવી ભક્તિમાર્ગઅપનાવ્યો. તેમના ભજનોમાં પણ રુઢિચુસ્ત સમાજના બંધનોફગાવી દેવાની વાત છે.
18 મી સદીમાંનારી મુક્તિની ચળવળ બ્રિટનમાં પણ શરુ થઇ. ગાંધીજીને સત્યાગ્રહ માટે પ્રેરણા આપનારબહેનો હતી જે પોતાના અધિકાર માટે બરફમાં પણ કલાકો સુધી ઉભા રહી લડત આપી હતી. મહારાષ્ટ્ર માં પણ તે વખતે બહીનાબાઇએ ચળવળ ચાલુ કરી હતી.
19 મી સદીમાંભારતની આધુનિક શિલ્પીમાં ગણતરી થાય છે તેવાં સાવિત્રી ફૂલે જેમણે કન્યા કેળવણીના બીજ રોપ્યા હતા તેમના પતિ જ્યોતિબાફૂલેનો પણ તેમને સાથ હતો. શરુઆતમાં તેમણે સમાજનો આક્રોશ છાણ, કાદવ મેલાંનાવરસાદનો હસતે મોં એ ઝીલ્યો હતો. સમાજ સેવક તરીકે સુંદર કામગીરી મહારાષ્ટ્રમાંબજાવી હતી. રકમાબાઇએ બાળવિવાહ સામે વિરોધ પોતાના નાની ઉંમરે થયેલા લગ્નથી જનોંધાવ્યો હતો.
વૈશ્વિકસ્તરે નારીવાદ માટે યુરોપની કાપડની મિલોની કામદાર બહેનોએ અવાજ ઉઠાવ્યો હતો. આઝાદીનીચળવળમાં કસ્તુરબા, સરોજીની નાયડુ ,કમલાદેવીસાથે ઘણી સ્ત્રીઓ જોડાઇ હતી. આઝાદી પછી ભાગલા વખતે હજારોનીસંખ્યામાં ખરડાયેલી બહેનો ને સમાજ કુટુંબ સ્વીકારવા તૈયાર નહતો, તેવા સમયેમૃણાલીની સારાભાઇ, કમળાબહેન પટેલ, પુષ્પા બહેનજેવા તેમના માટે લડ્યા ને તરછોડાયેલી બહેનો એદેશની જવાબદારી છે તે બાબતે સરકારનું ધ્યાન દોર્યું . પુષ્પા બહેન મહેતા ને તેમની સાથે જોડાયેલી બહેનો ગામેગામ ફરી નેબહેનોના પ્રશ્નો , તેમની આત્મહત્યા ના કારણો જાણી રીપોર્ટ તૈયાર કરી સરકારને સોંપ્યો. હંસાબહેનમહેતા તેમના હકો માટે લડ્યા . સંવિધાનમાં પણ બહેનોને કાયદેસર હકો મળવા જોઇએ નેસમિતિમાં પણ સ્થાન મળવું જોઇએ તેવી પુષ્પાબહેને રજુઆત કરી. 1974 માંસમાનતારુપી ખરડો પસાર થયો.
હિમાચલપ્રદેશમાં આડેધડ કપાતા જંગલોનો વિરોધ બહેનોએ જ ચિપકો મૂવમેન્ટ દ્વારા કર્યોહતો. આજે હજી ઘણાં પ્રશ્નો છે પણભારતના બંધારણમાં તેમના પ્રશ્નો ની યોગ્ય રજુઆત થઇ શકે તે માટે સંસદમાં 1/3 મહિલા નેસ્થાન મળ્યું છે. હવે પછીની ચૂંટણી પ્રક્રિયામાં તેનો અમલ થશે. પણ માત્ર કાયદાથી મુક્તિ નથીમળતી, પુરુષે પણ તેમના અધિકારો માટેસાથ આપવો જોઇએ એટલે જ નારી મુક્તિ એ માનવ મુક્તિ.એજુદા નથી. સ્ત્રી હોવાનું આપણને ગૌરવ હોવું જોઇએ . સ્ત્રીઓમાં જે તાકત , આત્મબળ નેલાગણી, શક્તિ છે તેના વડે જ સમાજ ટકેલોછે.

Dr. Vibhuti Patel (Ph. D. Economics) worked as Professor, Advanced Centre for Women's Studies, School of Development Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai from 1st July 2017 to 30th June 2020 under the Reemployment Programme of the Tata Trust. She retired from SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai where she was employed from October 2004 to June 2017.
Prof. Vibhuti Patel is Ph.D. in Economics, University of Mumbai. She was awarded Visiting Fellowship to the London School of Economics and Political Science from Association of Commonwealth Universities, UK in 1992-93.
She has authored and co-authored 12 books; edited and co-edited 9 books and contributed over 100 papers as chapters in various books edited by others. She has also authored and co-authored 34 research monographs and reports. Her research papers, comments, commentaries, and reviews have been published in the national as well as international academic journals.
Currently, she is board member of School of Gender and Development Studies of Indira Gandhi Open University (IGNOU). She is Governing Board member of Centre for Social Studies (Surat) and Gandhi Shikshan Bhavan (Mumbai) and Maniben Nanavati College for Women (Mumbai). She is an expert committee member of Academic Advisory Board of Indian Institute of Culture, Mumbai.
