એક સમયે કાકાસાહેબ કાલેલકરના અભિન્ન સાથી અને સાથે હિમાલયનો પ્રવાસ કરનાર સ્વામી આનંદ આઝાદી પછીના સમયગાળામાં, ગુજરાતીના સૌથી સમર્થ લેખકોમાંના એક તરીકે ઉભરી આવ્યા. વાંચનારને જુદા જ ભાવવિશ્વમાં તાણી જાય એવો ધસમસમતો ભાષાપ્રવાહ, વિશિષ્ટ શબ્દપ્રયોગો અને શબ્દો થકી પાત્રોમાં પ્રાણપ્રતિષ્ઠા કરવાની તેમની વિશિષ્ટતાએ તેમને ટોચના ગુજરાતી સાહિત્યકારોમાં સ્થાન આપ્યું. પરંતુ અભ્યાસક્રમોમાં સ્વામી આનંદના પાઠ કદી આવ્યા નહીં. એટલે તેમની હયાતીમાં જ તેમનું નામ ભૂંસાવા લાગ્યું હતું અને હવે તો એ પ્રક્રિયા લગભગ સંપૂર્ણ થવાના આરે છે. ગુજરાતી ભાષા પ્રત્યે પ્રેમ ધરાવનાર કોઈ પણ વ્યક્તિને સ્વામી આનંદના ગદ્યથી દૂર રહેવું પોસાય નહીં અને ભાષાપ્રેમ ધરાવનાર કોઈ પણ ગુજરાતી સ્વામી આનંદના ગદ્યના ધબકારથી રોમાંચ અનુભવ્યા વિના રહી શકે નહીં.
