Dr. Usha Upadhyay

Writer, Poet and Professor



She completed M. A. in Gujarati and later received Ph.D. Her Ph.D. subject was “Symbols in Post‐ Independence Gujarati Poetry”. She works as the Head of the Department of Gujarati in Gujarat Vidyapith, Ahmedabad. She is the vice president of the Gujarati Writers' Association.

Usha Upadhyay is a poet writer in Gujarati and Hindi. She has three collections of poetry : Jal Billori, Arundhatino Taro and Shyam Pankhi Aav Aav. Her poetry has been translated into several languages including Kannada, Bengali, Urdu, Hindi and English. She is a translator. Her short story, “Hu to Chali” won her aacclaim. Mastikhor Maniyo is her collection of one-act plays. She has written a children's story, Ek Hati Roopa

She has been the secretary of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad. Presently, she is teaching in the department of Gujarati in Gujarat Vidyapith and has been its head of the department since 1998. She has won many awards, including the Bhagini Nivedita Paritoshik, Naari Shakti award, Uttar Pradesh Hindi Sansthan’s Sauhard Samman and many others.
